The advertising executives wrongly entered this idea the mind of the potential buyers, by associating this metal and the concepts of modernity and inalterability. What 's happening really?

A canopy is a large glazing, the glazed wall of a veranda etc. Example: the canopy of a station (Dictionary the Robert) and, by extension, a veranda.
